POSITION TITLE: Regulatory Program Intern

REPORTS TO:  Natural Resources Technician

 

CLASSIFICATION:

  • Hiring up to one, temporary season position without benefits
  • Position term is May to October with flexible start/end dates (depending upon availability, position could start in April and extend into November)
  • 30-40 hours per week (occasional weekends and evenings)
  • Hourly wage range: $17.50 – $18.50 per hour (depending on qualifications)

 

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Provide technical support and assistance for the RPBCWD Regulatory Program which ensures a consistent level of resource protection across the watershed district. This position will assist the Natural Resource Technician with site inspections, and database management with a GIS component.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Natural Resources Tech with inspections of permitted sites throughout the District
  • Assist Natural Resources Tech with permit database entry and updates
  • Assist Natural Resources Tech with preparation of monthly inspections report
  • Provide superior customer service and interaction in a friendly, professional manner
  • Assist Natural Resources Tech with regulatory compliance program
  • Perform miscellaneous office duties as required

 

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and QUALIFICATIONS

  • A student currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an associate or bachelor’s degree track program in the field of civil engineering, construction management, engineering technician, civil design, water resource management, environmental science, natural resources, hydrology, or related field. Experience in the construction field may substitute for education.
  • General knowledge of the NPDES small site construction permit program
  • Knowledge of SWPPP development and implementation
  •  Erosion site inspection
  • Experience or coursework in civil engineering, erosion and/or stormwater management, soil sciences, AutoCAD, or related.
  • Ability to work well with a team and independently as needed
  • Must be proficient with MS Office Suite
  • Must have familiarity with basic use of ArcGIS
  • Ability to develop and maintain a working knowledge of the RPBCWD’s permitting requirements
  • Strong time management, organizational, written, and oral communications skills
  • Maintains a flexible attitude toward job responsibilities and procedural changes

 

ACTIVITY AND FIELDWORK COMPONENTS

  • This position requires a valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Ability to lift and carry approximately 50-75 pounds over uneven surfaces and slopes
  • Working outdoors under all weather conditions

ABOUT THE DISTRICT

The Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District is a local government unit charged with protecting, managing, and restoring water resources. It encompasses all the land that drains into any of the three creeks in its name. At about 50 square miles, it includes parts of seven cities (Bloomington, Chanhassen, Chaska, Deephaven, Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, and Shorewood), and two counties (Carver and Hennepin).The District is led by residents and water professionals. Five managers (four appointed by the Hennepin County Commissioners and one by Carver) serve three-year terms directing District activities. The District partners with local communities to identify top priorities and plan, implement, and manage efforts to protect clean water. The District works to educate and engage community members in this stewardship.
